Vermonters 65 and older can sign up to receive a coronavirus vaccine at Walgreens starting today, after the pharmacy received extra doses.
Registration for that age group was previously scheduled to begin on March 1. But Walgreens got a delivery of 4,300 more vaccines than expected, as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.
Under the program, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has partnered with local pharmacies to administer the vaccine. Vermonters age 65 and older can register online at Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or by calling 1-800-Walgreens (1-800-925-4733). There are no walk-ins. The pharmacy will offer appointments Thursday through the weekend.
Starting Monday, March 1, Vermonters will also have the option to register for a vaccine through the Department of Health website or through Kinney Drugs, which is also offering the vaccine.
The state has already inoculated health care workers, residents and staff at long-term care facilities, as well as Vermonters age 70 and over. So far, 95,000 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
