Jennifer Lawrence has joined Twitter this week — which she formerly vowed to never do — for a good cause: demanding racial justice.
Her first tweet was a video explaining how “corruption has broken our criminal justice system.” The video was sponsored by Represent US, a group dedicated “to unrigging America’s corrupt political system.” According to the organization’s website, Lawrence is a current board member.
Nearly 1 in 4 Black men in America will be locked up at some point in their life. In this short video, @omarepps & @desmondmeade explain how corruption has broken our criminal justice system—& what we can do to fix it. #UnbreakingAmerica #JusticeForSale https://t.co/nBgujzH2BH pic.twitter.com/Jhw4Jtav5L

Lawrence’s second tweet was a statement demanding the arrest of Det. Brett Hankinson, Det. Myles Cosgrove and Sgt. Jon Mattingly. The three officers were involved in the shooting death of 26-year-old Breonna Taylor in March.

“As a Louisvillian, as a human being, I cannot be silent,” Lawrence said in her statement. “I join all those who are speaking out against this grave injustice, calling upon Attorney General Daniel Cameron to take immediate action to hold those responsible for her death accountable.”
In Lawrence’s statement, she was very critical of Attorney General Daniel Cameron, saying he’s losing the trust of Kentuckians as he waits to press charges on the officers.
“Mr. Cameron, the longer you wait to bring criminal charges against officers Jonathan Mattingly, Myles Cosgrove, and Brett Hankinson, the more trust erodes.” Lawrence wrote. “Address the LMPD’s insufficient response to Breonna Taylor’s murder.”
On Friday, Hankinson was fired by interim LMPD Chief Robert Schroeder. Officials say he showed “indifference to the value of human life” when he fired 10 rounds into Taylor’s apartment.
