London: When British police were called to Loughborough Junction train station just after 7.30 on Monday, they found a scene they were left grappling to comprehend.

After receiving a report of “multiple bodies being found,” police say they discovered three people on the tracks. Aerial shots broadcast by Sky News UK showed the bodies were on the tracks a distance away from the platform.

Paramedics were unable to revive them and they were pronounced dead. British Transport Police issued a media release saying three people had been struck by a train.

“My team are now working hard to understand what happened and how these three people came to lose their life on the railway,” Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson from British Transport Police said.

“At this time, we are treating their death as unexplained as we make a number of immediate enquiries.”

Police are asking commuters for any information.
