Avengers: Endgame is supposed to be the end of an era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Gwyneth Paltrow says it definitely is for her: She told Variety she’s leaving the MCU after this film.
Here was her quote to the trade:

‘I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,’ Paltrow, 46, told Variety in this week’s cover story. ‘I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [‘Iron Man’ director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first ‘Iron Man’ and then to watch how important it has become to fans.’

Paltrow did say she could make a “cameo” in future movies. “If they said, ‘Can you come back for a day?,’ I will always be there if they need me,” Paltrow added.

Paltrow is one of the original stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting as Tony Stark’s assistant and love interest in the first Iron Man from 2008. She went on to co-star in both Iron Man sequels and the first Avengers, and she also made a surprise cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming. She never quite fulfilled her comic-book character’s destiny of becoming a full-on superhero; comic-book Pepper eventually got her own suit of Iron Man armor and became “Rescue.” Paltrow did come close in Iron Man 3. And who knows what happens in Avengers: Endgame. Perhaps we’ll see that before she exits the franchise.
Avengers: Endgame opens in theaters on April 26.
