The Duchess of York relived the special moments that marked her wedding day, from the feeling she had for her groom to their debut on Buckingham Palace’s iconic balcony as a married couple.

Speaking to Piers Morgan, she described stepping onto the world stage as a royal wife as “mesmeric”.

She said: “Let me go back in time.

“You are taken with such a wave of energy, that it is just mesmeric, it is just extraordinary.

“And you’re so in love — anyway, it’s your wedding day.

“Like every bride’s wedding day, it’s a special day.

“And you’ve got a beautiful dress on.

“But you’re standing there with the man you love.

“And then there are people out there who are wishing you so well. And it’s just extraordinary.

“It’s just unfathomable. You can’t explain it.”

The Duchess, also known as Fergie, married Prince Andrew on July 23 1986 in Westminster Abbey.

In the 2011 interview which has resurfaced, she said: “We married for total love.

“And when I went up that aisle, I had – I married my man.

“I also married a sailor. And I got a prince.

“But my man was the most important thing for me, Piers, because nothing was more important than him.”

The pair lived an intense romance, with Andrew proposing to Sarah after a short time dating.

But their marriage didn’t last, as the couple divorced in 1999.

Their relations started to crack as early as in 1991, just one year after the birth of their second daughter, bride-to-be Princess Eugenie.

Yet, they managed to maintain a good relations for the sake of their children.

Speaking about the years that followed the separation and how her family held together, Fergie said: “Well, it still is a fairy tale, because it just has a very modern, different ending, you know?

“I’m — Andrew and I honour and respect each other. And he’s very kind.

“When I arrive in England, he gives me a room to stay in.

“And the two girls are a fantastic example of co-parenting.

“Andrew and I believe very strongly in that.”

The Duchess is already gearing up for her duties as mother of the bride ahead of Princess Eugenie’s big day.

And she had revealed she will likely end up in tears watching her daughter and fiancee Jack Brooksbank at the altar on October 13.

Talking on BBC’s The One show earlier this month, she said: “I do understand why mothers cry at weddings now.

“All my life I thought, ‘Oh, what’s she crying for?’

“It’s lovely, it’s a great day. It’s my little girl.”

Fergie confessed she also cried at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding, which took place at St George’s Chapel, where her daughter will also get married.

Talking to BANG Showbiz, the Duchess said: “It was such an honour, just beautiful.

“To see love like that is nothing better. That makes you cry.”
