The Duchess of York, also known as Fergie, told how cracks begun to appear in their relationship as soon as they tied the knot on July 23 1986 in Westminster Abbey, in the clip recently unearthed.

Prince Andrew’s royal duties and his job as a naval officer took over, she said.

Speaking to US TV host Ernie Manouse, she said: “My deal was that I was marrying my man, who happened to be a prince and a naval officer.

“But what I got was not the man, I got the palace and didn’t get him.. and the courtiers told me I had to go to Buckingham Palace and he had to go to sea.

“For our marriage, I saw him 40 days a year.”

Sarah Ferguson revealed how being apart from her husband meant she “immersed” herself in the love story of Princess Victoria and Prince Albert, which would see her go on to produce 2009 film ‘The Young Victoria’

In the 2010 interview, which has resurfaced, she said: “Both Andrew and I… both of us say now if we could go back we would definitely play it differently and we should have learnt how to play the chess game differently at 23.

“And maybe we have still been together because we would have said ‘no ‘to being separated just after our wedding.”

In 1992 the Duke and Duchess of York finally announced their separation after spending a lot of time part while Prince Andrew was on royal duties.

Just months later, photographs emerged of the redhead receiving a toe-sucking from oil tycoon John Bryan, who was described as her financial advisor and the couple divorced in 1996.

But the pair, who have two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, still remain firm friends and even share a residence.

Speaking candidly, Sarah added: “I think the love I had for him then, is the love I still have for him now.

“I still married the best and he’s the greatest gentleman that I know,” laughing she asks: “Why aren’t we married?”

In 2000, the Duchess of York said that she and her former husband had talked of remarrying but that Prince Philip forbade it.

Prince Andrew’s father is thought to be so upset at Sarah’s toe-sucking scandal and embarrassment to the Royal Family that he will struggle to be in the same room as her at Princess Eugenie’s October wedding.

The Duchess is already gearing up for her special role as mother of the bride ahead of Princess Eugenie’s big day.

She has also revealed she will likely end up in tears watching her daughter and fiancee Jack Brooksbank say ‘I do’ on October 13.
