The mother of Princess Eugenie, 28, and Princess Beatrice, 30, Sarah remains a prominent public figure through her roles as a writer, TV personality and charity patron.

Fergie married Prince Andrew in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 1986 but the couple separated in 1992.

Just a few months later, a bikini-clad Sarah was caught on camera having her toes sucked by a financial advisor.

Prince Philip, 97, is believed to have never forgiven the redhead for the incident.

The Duchess of York was later caught offering access to Prince Andrew in return for £500,000, during a undercover sting filmed by a News of the World reporter in 2010.

Sarah later moved to America where she was able to establish a new start for herself, telling chat show queen Oprah Winfrey in an interview the same year that the American people had “saved my life” through their acceptance.

Watching a video of herself in the infamous interview with Oprah, she said: “I feel really sorry for her, she looks exhausted.”

She went on to say: “I suppose I’ve tried to be perfect for 25 years, or even longer.

“Little Sarah got lost along the way.”

What words of advice would Fergie give her younger self?

Sarah, Duchess of York later opened up in a 2011 interview broadcast in the US in which she seemed to reconcile her past based on what she had learned.

When asked what advice she would give to her younger self, based on her time as a member of the Royal Family, she said: “Going back to that young girl, I would say to her: ‘You know what, I’ll stick with you, I’m with you, I’ll stay with you all the way.

“‘You don’t need to run around trying to get everyone to love you. I love you. You’ve got me. Listen to me: I will guide you. Listen to your instincts, Sarah.

“‘And be aware of your behaviour. And be aware how lucky you are. You’ve got the world. You’ve got the best looking prince.’”

Despite their divorce in 1996, Sarah and Andrew remain close and are often pictured at public events together.

Their youngest daughter Princess Eugenie once said: “They are the best divorced couple I know.”

Sarah now appears to be making a gradual return to royal circles and was a guest at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May.

Will Fergie be at Eugenie’s wedding?

As mother of bride-to-be Eugenie, Sarah is expected to play a big role at her forthcoming wedding on October 12 at Windsor Castle and will be in attendance.

She has already revealed her future son-in-law Jack Brooksbank, 32, is “the best”.

Writing on Instagram about her daughter’s engagement, she said: “We love Jack and I am so excited to have a son, a brother and best friend.

“Eugenie is one of the finest people I know and so together it will be pure harmony.”
