The wedding has already hit the headlines this week for its massive security bill but friction between Philip and Fergie is also giving cause for concern.

Royal watchers acknowledge the stand-off is nothing compared to the family feud at the heart of the Markle family where barely a day goes by without Meghan’s father or sister firing off another barbed comment against the newly-wed Duchess.

But sources believe there is still enough animosity between Philip and his former daughter-in-law to bring a black cloud over Eugenie’s big day.

The 28-year-old royal is marrying her fiancé Jack Brooksbank, 32, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle where Prince Harry wed Meghan in May.

And the open top-carriage and celebrity guest list also reveal big similarities to Meghan and Harry’s spectacular wedding which was watched by billions around the world.

According to the Mail on Sunday , 97-year-old Phillip will be keen to avoid the Duchess of York, 58, if a recent awkward encounter is anything to go by.

Fergie paid a visit to the Queen at Balmoral last week with Prince Andrew and their eldest daughter Beatrice on Thursday while Philip was elsewhere and left the Scottish retreat before he arrived.

A Balmoral source told the paper: “Her Majesty often has the Duchess for a few days at Balmoral early in her annual summer holiday there, but Prince Philip does not like being in the same building as her.

“He just can’t bring himself to forgive her for some of the outrageous things she has done.”

The rancour is believed to date back Philip’s refusal to forgive Fergie for previous indiscretions such as the “toegate” scandal of 1992 when, while she still married to Prince Andrew, she was photographed on a sun lounger having her toes sucked by financial adviser John Bryan.

Buckingham Palace however have insisted that Prince Philip’s recent absence at Balmoral was due to a private engagement.

And when Fergie attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May, it was claimed that she had not been invited to the private party thrown by Prince Charles in the evening.

So their could be some awkward moments when the pair do eventually come face-to-face with one another on at the wedding on October 12.
