The royal is set to listen to performances at the Sage Gateshead, including those from the centre’s CoMusic programme, which uses music to engage young people with life challenges.

The father-of-three is then due to be given a tour of the technology centre in Gateshead, which tests and creates digital solutions of businesses.

When Prince William is at the Baltic Centre, he will attend a reception to meet the volunteers who have helped to make the Great Exhibition to happen as well as seeing an exhibition at Ryder Architecture Cooper’s Studios.

The Great Exhibition, which began in June and will finish this Sunday, September 9, hopes to spark a renewed interest in the North of England’s pioneering spirit.

It is hosting various art, culture, design and innovation exhibitions to tell the story of how the region has been shaped.

It has been the country’s biggest event in 2018 over the 80 days that it has been open.

The exhibition organisers said: “We’ll use the stunning cityscape of NewcastleGateshead as the stage for the whole of the North to demonstrate its talents.”

The Duke of Cambridge visited the North East of England with his wife the Duchess of Cambridge in February when they opened a new arts hub.

The royal couple met their fans outside Newcastle’s Fire Station community hub.

Next week the Prince of Wales will visit Northumberland on an official visit and he will visit Hexham Abbey, Alnwick Garden and a gin distillery.

It has been a busy week for Prince William as he visited the Royal Mail’s International Logistics Centre at Heathrow Airport yesterday, Thursday September 6.
