In April, the Dutch royal family released an interesting twist on traditional family portraits, captivating millions of royal fans around the world, with even the Belgian royal family taking a liking to their snap.

King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and their three daughters, Princesses Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariane stepped out of their comfort zone in the striking portrait, taken by Erwin Olaf.

The captivating image showed the family-of-five mid-stride, with their hair swaying in the wind as they stared straight into the camera, with Princess Alexia taking centre stage.

The pictures were released by the Dutch palace to celebrate the king’s five years on the throne, as royal fans caught a glimpse of the palace interiors in Amsterdam.

Impressed by their creativity, the Belgian family appeared to recreate their posing with subtle differences.

On Tuesday, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium and their four children, Princesses Elisabeth and Eleonore and Princes Gabriel and Emmanuel were pictured walking on the grounds of their royal residences.

Unlike the Dutch royals, the Belgian royal family were pictured holding hands in the shot.

Speculations are now rising as to whether Kate and William might also follow in the royals’ footsteps.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have recently release a series of family snaps, taken on the day of Prince Louis’ christening.

Contrary to their royal counterparts in Europe, Kate and William seem to favour more traditional snaps, with plain backgrounds and neutral colours – making the royals the main focus of the picture.

The Dutch royal families opted for a sleeker and modern outfits, while the Belgian royal family wore florals and bright colours for their portrait – following the garden theme for their shot.

However, Kate and William appeared to dress in more traditional outfits, with Kate sporting a bespoke Alexander McQueen dress, with a floral Jane Taylor hat and matching pearl earrings.

Princess Charlotte looked adorable in a white and blue print dress, while Prince George looked dashing in a white collared shirt with a pair of matching black shorts and black shoes.

Kate’s sister, Pippa Middleton and her husband, James Matthews, grandparents Michael Middleton and Carole Middleton, along with the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother, James Middleton, were also present for a photograph.

In a heartfelt moment, Charlotte, three, gazed at her baby brother lovingly as she held his hand, while George, four, sported a cheerful grin as he sat on his father Prince William’s lap.
