The Queen is due to host US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at Windsor Castle for tea later this afternoon.

Royal biographer Hugo Vickers has revealed that Donald Trump will be “very excited” – but warned about what could go wrong in the royal meeting.

Vickers told Sky News that Mr Trump unexpected behaviour could cause issues when he greets Queen Elizabeth.

He added: “If the President behaved in a churlish manner, I dread what sort of tweets he will make after the meeting.”

However, Vickers added that there were no “no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting the Queen”.

During the controversial interview with the Sun released yesterday, Mr Trump was effusive in his praise for Queen Elizabeth II.

He said: “She is a tremendous woman. I really look forward to meeting her. I think she represents her country so well.

“If you think of it, for so many years she has represented her country, she has never really made a mistake.

“You don’t see, like, anything embarrassing. She is just an incredible woman.”

Although the timing of the tea hasn’t been announced, the Queen regularly takes her tea at 5pm.

The meeting will take place in one of the Queen’s drawing rooms at Windsor Castle.

Vickers added: “Trump loves his military ceremony. This isn’t a state visit but we have rolled out the bells and whistles.

“We can put on a very special display, with royal flourishes. It is a trump card!”

The Queen with meet Mr Trump and his wife without her husband Prince Phillip.

Sky correspondent Rhiannon Mills added: “People will be watching the body language very closely.

“We are used to Trump’s very heavy-handed handshakes. He will want it to go well.

“This is a thing that money cannot buy. His mum was a big fan of the queen. He is a big fan of his British history.”
