Palace officials are in discussions about making Meghan’s Givenchy gown, designed by Clare Waight Keller, the centrepiece of an exhibition open to the public at the 1,000-year-old fortress.

Royal sources told the Daily Express that a firm decision has already been made to put the dress on display by the end of this year.

But others have said the decision, including when it happens, has yet to be finalised.

Trust, the charity which oversees visitor attractions at the Queen’s official residences, said any announcement would be made later in the year.

Windsor will also host Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October.

It has previously staged several other royal nuptials including those of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The attraction has been enjoying a bumper year after welcoming 1.4 million visitors in 2017, it’s second-highest number ever.

“It’s fair to say it’s very busy down there,” a spokeswoman for the trust said.

Another said: “The royal wedding has obviously helped but so has the warm summer and the weak pound.”
