Princess Anne was born 15 August, 1950, meaning the Queen’s daughter is celebrating her 68th birthday today.

Born Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, at Clarence House, she is the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

She is currently 13th in line to the throne.

The Royal Family tweeted the Princess Royal happy birthday wishes, posting: “Wishing HRH The Princess Royal a very Happy Birthday!”.

In fact, Her Royal Highness has one of the busiest schedules of any member of the Royal Family.

She started undertaking public work at the young age of 18, when she opened an educational and training centre in Shropshire in 1969.

Much of her time has been spent doing charity work for the organisation Save the Children, of which she has been President for almost 50 years.

The Princess Royal has visited Save the Children projects in a wide range of countries, including China, Botswana and The Philippines.

She is also known for her love of horses and her successful equestrian career, which saw her compete in the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

She has won two silver medals and one gold medal for her equestrian talent at the European Eventing Championships.

Anne married Captain Mark Phillips in 1973, but they later divorced in 1992, after being romantically linked with other people.

They have two children, Peter, born 1977 and Zara, born 1981.

She also has four grandchildren.

Only months after her divorce, Anne married Sir Timothy Laurence.

In 1974 she faced an attempted kidnapping plot, when returning from a charity event with then husband, Mark Phillips.

The attempt, made by Ian Ball, is the closest in modern times any individuals has come to kidnapping a member of the Royal Family.
