Three days after her US Open defeat, the tennis star told Australia’s “The Project” that she is regularly in touch with the Duchess of Sussex.
She noted: “We were actually just texting each other this morning.
“We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently.”
The tennis ace first met Meghan at the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami where they immediately hit it off and were pictured at the same event in 2014.
Throughout the years, the pair have continued to support each other and has shared all those special moments that solidify a friendship.
The Duchess has been pictured at Wimbledon on several occasions in the past, including in 2016, the summer in which she is thought to have met Prince Harry for the first time.
And Serena was pictured with her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, at the Royal Wedding in May.
Regarding the lavish nuptials, Serena told The Project she felt like she “was watching history”.
She explained: “To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history.
“I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it’s going to be so historic.
“It’s going to be something that people never forget.
“The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy.
“And I think that’s what happened.”
Meghan seems to prefer surrounding herself only with true and long-time friendships.
According to a source close Buckingham Palace, the Duchess has been forced to cut-off many people in her life due to her increasing lack of trust.
Since she became a member of the Royal Family Meghan has had to deal with a series of inflammatory leaks from her family and this has led to a smaller circle of friends.
The Royal insider told People: “Meghan has lost touch with some of her close friends from before the wedding, which has been tough.
“She’s finding it hard to know who to trust.”
However, the source confirmed that “there’s a small group” checking in with her to see how she’s doing all the time and “she is still the same person”.
