In a 2015 interview, which resurfaced online this week, the Duchess of Sussex spoke of her huge ambitions for her now defunct lifestyle website, The Tig – which contained similar recipes to the new charity publication.

The former Suits actress, 37, had plans to publish a collection of recipes and a “big vision” for the brand including a ‘Tig cookbook’ and ‘travel collaboration’.

The Tig – named after one of Meghan’s favourite wines, Tignanello – was launched in 2014 and billed the platform as a ‘hub for the discerning palate’ that specialised in style, food, and travel.

Posts included recipes, playlists and helpful tips, as well as interviews with high-profile friends including Serena Williams.

Included among her favourite recipes documented on the site were a coconut Thai curry, sweet potato white bean soup and baked eggs in avocado.

Speaking to Bay Street Bull in 2015, The Duchess said of the website: “There is a vision, and it’s a big one. I see it evolving into an international brand with many different iterations.

“It’s a timely question because those are conversations that are happening right now. But I just want to grow the team and certainly see it become even more impactful.

“Who knows, I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw a Tig cookbook or travel collaboration down the road. The opportunities are endless.”

Meghan shut down The Tig project shortly before she and Prince Harry announced their engagement in 2017.

However, she has been able to carry her love of cooking into her life as a duchess, selecting the Grenfell Tower charity cookbook, Together, as her first solo project as a royal.

The duchess wrote the foreword to the new book produced by cooks from the Hubb Community Kitchen, an initiative based near the site of the west London tower.

Some of her favourite dishes in the book include a green chilli and avocado dip and a coconut chicken curry.

She said she shared the same “shock and sympathy” as other people around the world after seeing the fire engulf the 24-storey social housing block in June 2017 – so Meghan made secret visits to the Hubb Community Kitchen at the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre to cook with the women.

Meghan said she ‘immediately felt connected’ to the kitchen when she first visited in January and has since made other secret trips to the centre to meet volunteers and learn more about their work.

Images published in the book show Meghan cooking alongside volunteers and their families who rallied to support each other – and fellow survivors – in the wake of the disaster that claimed 72 lives.

The Duchess of Sussex officially launched the book at Kensington Palace on Thursday, where she was joined by her mother Doria Ragland and husband Prince Harry, 34.

The finished book features 50 recipes from the diverse backgrounds of the women who make use of the kitchen.
