The Duchess of Sussex is struggling to know who to trust following her marriage to Prince Harry and is quickly losing touch with friends she had before becoming a royal.
A source told People Magazine Meghan has “lost touch” with friends who she previously shared a close relationship with.
The source said Meghan was finding it “tough” to trust anyone outside her new royal circle.
The source said: “Meghan has lost touch with some of her close friends from before the wedding, which has been tough. She’s finding it hard to know who to trust.”
Meghan’s blunt move is down to the fact she does not want people talking about her to the press.
The former Suits actress does not take gossiping lightly, and even cut contact with her own father, Thomas Markle Snr, after he revealed details about Meghan to the media.
Thomas broke Meghan’s strict code of silence after he staged a series of paparazzi photos with the media days before the Royal Wedding.
However, Meghan has not cut ties with all of her close friends.
The Duchess is still good friends with Canadian fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney who she recently visited last month during a trip back to her hometown in Toronto.
Meghan also keeps in touch with her pal Priyanka Chopra and her fiance, Nick Jonas, who reportedly spent time with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their Oxfordshire home in July.
The Duchess also showed her support for her friend Serena Williams at Wimbledon final this year, which she attended with Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.
However, Meghan has distanced herself with some friends of the past.
She no longer speaks to close childhood friend, Ninaki Priddy, who was the maid of honour at her first wedding to Trevor Engelson.
The pair lost contact when the Duchess moved to Toronto after she divorced Mr Engelson.
Following their split, Ms Priddy criticised Meghan’s attitude to people, calling her “cold” and “calculated”.
She previously said: “All I can say now is that I think Meghan was calculated, very calculated, in the way she handled people and relationships.
“Once she decides you’re not part of her life, she can be very cold. It’s this shutdown mechanism she has.”
Speaking about Meghan’s reaction to the media frenzy, a source told People: “It was very wearing on her. It’s her private life. The beginning of marriages are not that easy, but to have that impetus of your own family being disloyal is horrible and embarrassing.”
In their most recent family feud, the Duchess’ estranged half-sister Samantha launched a series of vicious tweets against Meghan, calling her a “DuchASS”.
Speaking to the Sun, Samantha said: “Hollywood has changed her. I think her ambition is to become a princess. It was something she dreamed of as a girl when we watched the royals on TV.”
