The Duchess of Sussex is said to have told friends Thomas Markle is using “emotional blackmail” to try and manipulate her but she has had “enough already”.

It comes after Mr Markle gave an interview saying he felt “cut off” by his 37-year-old daughter and he admitted they haven’t spoken for weeks.

A close friend of the Duchess said: “For the life of her, she can’t understand why he’s digging such a deep hole for himself and to say things like, ‘It would be easier for her if her dad died’.

“She said she just wishes her dad would ‘stop blathering’ to the press. That’s the one birthday gift she wanted from her father.”

The source also revealed Meghan does not have plans to contact Mr Markle because she is “deeply hurt” and she can’t trust him to “keep their conversation private”.

They told the Mail Online: “Meghan is big on being true to herself and taking care of herself, and if this means avoiding toxic relationships so be it.

“It’s not like she’s never ever going to speak with her dad again, but certainly not now, not in this climate.”

Last week Mr Markle told the Mail on Sunday he was nursing a broken heart during over his daughter’s birthday weekend.

He told the paper: “I tell you, I’ve just about reached my limit on Meghan and the Royal Family.

“I’m about to unload on them. Perhaps it would be easier for Meghan if I died.

“Everybody would be filled with sympathy for her. But I hope we reconcile. I’d hate to die without speaking to Meghan again.

“If Meghan never speaks to me again, I don’t know how I can go on without my heart breaking.

“They want me to be silent, they want me to just go away. But I won’t be silenced. I refuse to stay quiet.”

He also added he has been cut off completely as the phone numbers he had to contact her were disconnected.

However, Meghan’s friend hit back saying this isn’t the first time the Duchess has been forced to deal with the 74-year-old’s “self-pity”.

They said: “Behaviour like his doesn’t happen overnight. Why do you think her parents got divorced in the first place?

“Meghan’s had to deal with a lot of self-esteem issues growing up with a narcissist. She has tools to cope with emotional blackmail. She does pray for him.

“That’s Meghan. She does not have a bad bone in her body, but she’s not falling for her dad’s crocodile tears. She’s been down that road far too many times before.”
